Ingredients:
- 2 cups milk
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/3 cup sugar
- Pinch of salt
- 8–10 slices of bread, crust removed
- 2 eggs, beaten
Method:
- Heat oven to 200C.
- In a small saucepan, add milk, butter, vanilla, sugar and salt. Heat till butter melts, then allow to cool.
- Butter a baking dish.
- Line with bread slices. Tip: you can add jam or Nutella to the slices, or stewed fruit in between the layers of bread. Just finish with bread on top.
- After milk mix has been cooled, add eggs and whisk.
- Pour the mixture over the bread.
- Bake for 30–45 mins until the custard is set and a little wobbly and the edges of bread have browned slightly.
- Serve warm.
