Poetry

Poem For B

By

Nic

Nic writes from a prison in WA.

An image of a river underneath large green rolling hills.
Harrison Doust

Alone in my cell, 3 metres long and 2 metres wide,

The ceiling above, as low as the tide,

The tide I’ll never see for so many years.

Alone in my cell, it used to be so many tears,

Until I found love, the love of my life,

She’s in another jail but someday she’ll be my wife.

Alone in my cell, I no longer cry,

Every morning I wake up all I want to do is try,

Strive to be the best and push past the rest.

It’s not so far away with God on our side,

If I look hard enough I can almost see that tide.

The end of the road where you hold a light,

Girl, our future is starting to look so bright.

Alone in my cell, 3 metres long and 2 metres wide,

I write these letters to my girl who in I confide,

I tell her my troubles, I tell her my sorrow,

Before she came along, I couldn’t even see tomorrow

Girl you remind me of the stars in the sky,

The rare nights I get to see them, I think of you

And cry,

Alone in my cell, I wait like a stone

Until one day we can finally be alone.

Cold blows the wind tonight, sweetheart, cold are the drops of rain, cold are the four walls of my cell, so cold I shall remain.

These “emotions” that carry me. It’s from these that you see me. Let not what you see, be all I can be. I’m so much more, this isn’t all.
