No Changes to Unemployment Payments

By
Belly

Belly writes from Wolston Correctional Centre in Queensland.

Willy Pleasance

Dear About Time editors,

Thanks again for the great content in the March 2025 issue. The poetry by Leslie at Ravenhall and Robert here at Wolston really stood out for me.

Also hearing an opinion of a proper Law Doctoral Scholar (Andreea Lachsz, pg.11) regarding prison labour and wages was salient. One thing to keep in mind (and is also relevant) is the unemployment or hygiene wages ($15 approximately). This amount has not changed in over 10 years despite inflation and cost of living.

If we are to be kept clean and tidy at our own expense, it should not be so hard to afford products needed.

Yours Sincerely,

Belly.

P.S. Question 10 in the Quiz (p.28) says Australian Flag = seven stars: How? I count six!

Lessons from Bees

By Muhamed

Prison teaches people to hold back. To keep to themselves. To give as little as possible. To protect what little energy or hope they have left. When everything feels limited – time, freedom, trust – it makes sense to think that giving more will leave you with less. But the bee lives by a different rule.
