Heart On My Sleeve

By

Martin

Martin writes from a prison in QLD.

I’m a rapper and I thought I’d share one of the songs I’ve written. It’s so far unpublished, however as soon as I get out of prison I’d love to find a way to have it recorded and published correctly – mixed and mashed.

I’ve always had an amazing talent in writing poetry and rap music however I don’t have many ideas for how to share it or what to do with it as far as recording and publishing it.

I really wish there was more support for artists like myself.

So I thought I’d share a song I wrote called “Heart on My Sleeve”.

I’d love the song to relate to or even just help another person that feels the same.

Martin – Jackhammer Jesus
(Rap Name)

Hook intro

(Rapper) heartfelt/(mid range)

Heart on my sleeve it bleeds it screams

Was broken in the dark but I’m still building of them dreams

I’m the same man I was, “you could never see”

Slamming bibles on my path and preaching on me

Verse 1

We were in and out hurricane in the sheets

Wedding plans, promises – now just broken receipts

I see you still rocking the ring -–that I bleed for

Crawling through the dirt every “dollar was war”

Supposed to be settled back now, starting a life

But you walked outta your mind, the needles twisting

the knife.

So beautiful when I met you

Now I just wish I could forget

Unrecognisable shadow – man I pray you get better

“I’m Jackhammer Jesus”

and I raised myself from the pit, lucky I crawled out

With a bible clutched in my fist

But I couldn’t erase a vision of a girl I believed

So I wear it on my chest and let it bleed hard on my

Sleeve

Hook

Heart on my sleeve it bleeds, it screams was broken

in the dark but I’m still building of them dreams I’m

the same man I was, that you could never see slamming

Bibles on my path and preaching at me

Verse 2

Yeah! The drugs kept me moving – when the

Nights went black lost my best mate even

he vanished from crack

No pillow for my head just a bottle and

plan. Stacked the bricks and the hurt turned a

Ghost into man.

Now all we’ve got is the police and a no contact

order law between the love the hurricane crossed

the border

I built “elite construction” outta the Fire and Rage

Hammer in my grip, but I’m still tearing at the cage

I could buy the whole block

but who’s gonna sit at my

table? I’m a king with no crown and my throne is

Unstable. I’m still swinging in the silence – with the

pain that I preach. Preaching sermons threw the

dirt wearing my heart on my sleeve

Hook

It bleeds it screams, broken in the dark but I’m

still building of them dreams. I’m the same man I

was, you could never see. Slamming Bibles on my path

and preaching on me.

Verse 3

Now it’s just mirrors and reflections of a ghost.

I could rebuild the whole world but there’s one thing I’m

missing the most.

“Every house” every wall “every nail that I drive”

was just a coffin for the love I kept half alive.

I’m better than that girl, wax higher than needles

But you chose the reapers and the reapers chose

to preach back on the evil.

So I packed what I had and retired I believed

you lost who you were now I wear that in

Grave.

I’m still Jackhammer Jesus, baptised in the fire

crucifix, crowbars, scriptures soaked in desire

I’ll hammer drug these heavens till the angles all

Bleed, reaching for the stars with my

Heart on my sleeve.

Outro

Heart on my sleeve, jackhammers on the earth

Before I give up they’ll have to bury me

first.
