Somebody’s Daughter Theatre offers women within the prison system in Victoria, the opportunity to participate in weekly art workshops.
Participants are introduced to a range of art materials and given guidance to explore their self expression and creativity in a supportive environment.
Artworks produced by the women are exhibited annually in conjunction with the Somebody’s Daughter Theatre Production for the prison community, family and friends, dignitaries including members of parliament and the general public.
Leonor:
This is my second Aztec Warrior drawing. This time I wanted to focus more on the details of the elaborate ornamented figures and hieroglyphs. Like Huitzilopochtli (the Sun God) and Quetzalcoatl the plumed serpent, to name a few. The warlike Aztec established an empire that was constantly expanding. In less than 200 years the once barbarian Aztec had develop a civilization that caused the leader of the Spanish conquistadors to declare there capital Tenochtitlan (now Mexico City) “The most beautiful City in the world”. Through all ranks of Aztec society, family and community were prized above all else, and a strong moral code prevailed. A surprisingly tender streak could always be detected beneath the war like facades.
