‘I Try, I Really Do’

By
Lynda

Lynda writes from a prison in QLD.

For My Mum

Mum I wish you knew how much I care

And how much I miss you when you’re not there

If only you could see how very hard I try

To be the kind of daughter to never be seen to cry

I try, I try, I really do, to be the best I can

I try, I do, but things don’t work out the way I plan

I see in your eyes the way I seem to you

And I know that others see the same thing too

I try to change and become someone new

But I am who I am and you are you.

Strip Searches

By Nikita

It’s daunting enough when you get arrested by police, then placed into custody and thrown into a cell. Then you have to go through a degrading strip search.

I’ve spent most of my adult life behind bars, and I’m not proud to say it. It’s been such a bloody waste.
